The Marion County Park District can always use your help in developing our park system. Our biggest push so far has been to establish a multi-use trail northwest of Marion.
To date, we’ve acquired and used more than $800,000 in grants, kind donations, and matching local funds to purchase the land for a rail-trail, build a trailhead building, pave a parking lot, and begin to develop the first mile of the Tallgrass Trail. In 2011 we anticipate receiving a grant but will need an additional $155,000 for local matching funds. We also need to set aside funds for future maintenance of the trail.
There are several ways that you can help:
1) Make a tax-deductable donation to the Prairie Parks Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 foundation set up to receive tax-deductible donations to help the Marion County Parks. 2) Make a secure on-line donation to the Prairie Parks Foundation, a non-profit foundation set up to receive tax-deductible donations to help the Marion County Parks, via the DONATE button at right (coming soon). Donations can be designated for specific uses.
3) Donate to one of the funds at the Marion Community Foundation that are designated to help Marion County Parks, or set up a new fund.
